Shake things up this summer with a visit to an old favorite. Visitors can now enjoy new features of the Battleground Parks District since the Phase I upgrades are complete!
What’s new?
With several new features of the Battleground Parks District open and ready for use, new fun will be easy to come by.
For starters, there is 700-feet of zipline crossing back and forth over Country Park’s Sloan Lake! Fun fact, this part of the project was funded by a $100,000 grant from the VF Foundation.
Known as the “FLYAWAY,” this attraction is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the summer. Zipliners must be at least 8-years-old and weigh between 70 and 275 pounds.
Operated by the Greensboro Science Center, cost is $20. Certain discounts may apply for science center members or with the purchase of a GSC general admissions ticket.
What other new features of the Battleground Parks District are ready for use? Next up, the “canopy walk!”
This 30-foot-tall boardwalk will let you see the park from new heights. Experience life in the trees as you walk through the majestic grove of birch, beech, maple and oak trees high above the ground.
Plus, this new-and-improved boardwalk is wider, making it more accessible for all.
More new features at the park
Additional new features of the Battleground Parks District include a 100-person picnic shelter. It’s currently available for rent. Plan your next family reunion, birthday or other special event in the great outdoors.

What’s more, you can now safely enjoy the relocated Bark Park with more parking spaces as well. With the new entrance at Nathanael Green Drive off Lawndale, the park is easier to access and keeps the loop road open for walkers and bikers.
Things to know
With the exception of the FLYAWAY zipline, all of the park’s new attractions are open during Country Park’s regular hours. That means you can enjoy them from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. now through August.
Don’t forget to make time to check out the Greensboro Science Center’s newest attraction—the Cole Family Monarch Conservation Center and Butterfly House. It opened in early June!
